Relocation guide
Moving to theSouth Shore.
Coming from the city, another part of Long Island or out of state? John has lived here his whole life. Here is what to know, and how he makes the move feel controlled.

What to know
Keep itsimple.
Getting to the city
The Long Island Rail Road's Montauk Branch runs along the South Shore with stops in Bay Shore, Islip, Great River, Oakdale and Sayville. Trains connect toward Penn Station and Grand Central Madison. Drivers use the Southern State Parkway, Sunrise Highway and the Long Island Expressway.
Life on the bay
The Great South Bay shapes daily life here. Marinas, bay beaches and summer ferries to Fire Island from Bay Shore and Sayville are part of the routine, along with state parks like Heckscher and the Connetquot River preserve.
Taxes and costs
Property taxes on Long Island vary by town, school district and assessment. Flood insurance can add to the monthly cost near the water. John helps you compare the full cost of ownership, beyond the price, before you choose a town.
Schools and districts
School district lines do not always follow town names. Two homes in the same hamlet can sit in different districts. John confirms the district for every address you consider, so you can do your own research with the right information.
Seasons
Summers are busy on the water, fall is the South Shore at its calmest, and winters are quiet. Inventory and competition shift with the seasons, and John plans your search around them.
